Crystallization
Vobis Crystallizers
Our crystallizers are capable of yielding solids from a vast spectrum of product and waste feed streams enabling our clients to cost-effectively produce product crystals or reduce waste stream volumes creating landfill-ready solid crystals.
Pilot Crystallizer
How Our Crystallizers Work
The feed stream is first concentrated by evaporation until the saturation point is passed and crystal nucleation begins. During the process, the precipitating solids are kept suspended in liquid by high velocity recirculation pumps which also minimize fouling in the heat exchanger. The growth of developing crystals is promoted until a heavy slurry stream of crystals is drawn from the crystallizer to a cooling chamber for completion of the crystallization process.
Producing Product Crystals
We design and manufacture single or multiple-stage brine crystallizer systems utilizing our experience with a variety of crystallizer applications, and/or data generated during testing. With energy efficiency as a goal, we often implement mechanical or thermal vapor compression in both our single and multiple effect crystallizer systems. Our single-stage pilot crystallizers are often the final step in a small-scale crystallization production system, but they are also often implemented to generate data to facilitate scale-up design.
Cost-effective Reduction of Waste Stream Volumes
Creating dry stackable crystals necessitates including additional processing steps after the crystallization process is complete. In the cooling chamber, a centrifuge or a filter press will further concentrate the slurry into its final, landfill-ready dry crystal form at over 95% solids.

Further Considerations
The design of the crystallization system has a direct effect on nucleation, crystal size and yield. As we design your specific system, we also take into consideration the range of applications your system must accommodate and the extent to which the process should be customizable. We also address particular concerns such as corrosion reduction and how to keep heat transfer surfaces from fouling.
